Weekly COVID-19 Update

Cumulative Case count: (12)

Placer County’s COVID-19 case count is starting to trend upward again, particularly in south Placer County. As you can see in our case count, we have had some new cases in the past few weeks, and the County Public Health Doctor has told us to expect that we will have more cases in the upcoming months ahead. We need to continue to be diligent - here is our weekly reminder about our basic COVID-19 protocols regarding student illness - a link to our current student illness protocols is available here.

Student masks: As a school, since the pandemic started we’ve been giving kids masks to wear in the classroom when they’ve forgotten to bring their masks. As this year has progressed, I’ve noticed more and more students not coming to school with a mask - in the last week, we gave out over 1000 masks to students. Favor: Please help make sure that your child is remembering to bring their mask to school.

Congratulations MMCA Girls’ Basketball Team - League Champions!

Our Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team won the Sierra Foothill League Championship this week! Last night, they also won the League Playoffs Tournament. Overall, the girls finished an undefeated season at 18-0! Great job girls bringing 2 more banners home to our school!

HELP WANTED: P.T. Positions Available - K-8 After School Care and Lunch Supervisor

We’re going to have an opening coming up for one of the before / after school care shifts in our K-8th Grade After School Care Program, as well as with one of our Lunch Supervisor positions. The hours for the Lunch Supervisor Position are approximately 11:10a-1:10p. The hours for the After Care Position would be approximately 3:00p - 6:00p on every school day. Parents interested in either shift may contact After Care Director Ray Baldonade at rbaldonade@mmcharter.org.

Placer County Office of Education Substitute Teaching Pool looking for more subs

Our school, along with almost all of the school districts within Placer County, are a part of the Placer County Office of Education’s Substitute Teacher Consortium. PCOE is looking for more substitute teachers for the pool. Given all of the recent impacts related to COVID-19, the number of people available to substitute has gone down substantially, while the demand for substitutes has gone up. Contextually, there’s normally over 1000 substitute teachers available in the pool; right now, the number is under 200. As a member of the PCOE Consortium, we traditionally get our substitute teachers from this pool, thus it’s very much in our interests for more people to get certified as substitute teachers. For more information on how to become a substitute teacher within Placer County, please check out this website: https://www.placercoe.org/Pages/PCOE/Departments/Human-Resources/Substitute-Teacher-Information.aspx.

MMCA New Student Enrollment Application for 2022-23 Lottery is Now Open

In November each year we begin accepting new student applications for our next school year’s lottery. This isn’t for existing students (whose spots are already guaranteed for next year); we do re-enrollment around mid-February. Additionally, we do have some K-8th grade spots available for the current year. For both current year and next year, our new student enrollment application is available on our enrollment webpage (enrollment button right side of page).

MMCA Yearbooks are now available to pre-order online

The cost is $25 through 11/30/2021. The cost will be $30 from 12/01/2021-03/31/2022. Purchase one before the price goes up! The only way to guarantee that you receive a yearbook is to pre-order! Click the link below to order online.

Parent Volunteers Reminder - new CDPH requirements now in place

As mentioned in previous Flyers, the state is mandating that all parents who volunteer inside a classroom must:

  1. Wear masks when indoors with students; and

  2. Provide one of the following:

    1. proof of vaccination (one-time submission; we’ll keep it on file in the office); or

    2. Negative COVID test within 72 hours prior to volunteer time; or

    3. Proof of COVID-19 diagnosis within the past year (we’re going to recognize natural immunity)

Fyi: There are lots of places that will provide FREE COVID-19 testing. One FREE COVID-19 testing location is less than 2 miles from our school site (promotional flyer below). If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please feel free to contact Mr. Boothby at brent@mmcharter.org.

Parent volunteers, please don’t forget to log your volunteer hours in the Volunteer Log Binder in the office!
