MMCA Community Garden Project

MMCA Community Garden Project

We are building a 6000 square foot outdoor classroom for our students!

Our goals for the garden include:

  • Creating and maintaining a Junior Master Gardener program. We already havethe curriculum and are in partnership with the Placer County Master Gardeners.
  • Creating and maintaining a group of parent volunteers who are trained by thePlacer County Master Gardeners to become garden docents for each classroom.
  • Our outdoor lab will provide each child weekly time in the garden with a teacheror docent to care for and learn from garden experiments. This will enable studentsto make a direct connection between the sciences and learn respect for the earth that sustains us.
  • Providing our students the tools and knowledge to become skilled gardeners, self-reliant citizens, and responsible stewards of the earth.
  • To connect students with the natural world through our outdoor, experiential learning lab.
  • To engage students with the seasonal rhythm of cultivating, growing, harvesting, and sharing of organic crops appropriate to each season of the year.
  • To awaken our students to the value and power of organic, self-regenerating natural systems like composting, beneficial insects, crop rotation, and more.
  • Growing produce to be offered to the student body. We have already been granted and have on site a salad bar donated from Whole Foods
